Currently in the container terminal and general cargo from Puerto Cortes has been considerable increase in the productivity of operations related to loading and unloading container ships using the container terminal , reaching levels that already exceed significantly rates in recent years .
The results are the product of the modernization and optimization Central Terminal Operator Port ( OPC ) is implementing the recovery of Puerto Cortes and repositioning as the most important in the region.
John Corum , CEO of OPC , reported that it has done an effective and orderly planning quayside berths for ships , which has led to more effective management of the infrastructure , processes and all operations the terminal for the benefit of all users.
“With effective planning , coupled with the acquisition of new equipment that has been added to the operations , today we can already notice a tangible and significant improvement in the productivity of the terminal , reaching levels that far exceed rates in recent years , achieving greater competitiveness and opportunities for Puerto Cortés , “he said .
Corum said ” we will continue working in this direction , exceeding service levels achieved to date as part of our integrated continuous improvement plan .”
The manager said that an example of the productivity growth in operations is that during the last month has been made to meet the needs of ships in 5A , 5B and 5C springs without much need for the spring 4 which gives OPC temporarily for the loading and unloading of bulk cargo in case of no demand for additional dock for containers and general cargo , also directly benefiting from the demand for that item handled by another dealer which is not related to the concession granted to OPC .
Another important factor that has influenced the productivity improvements is that OPC staff , their greatest asset , is constantly being trained in both the use of port -art equipment and the best practices of international port sector generating a better educated workforce that offers better services to end users .
In conclusion, Corum stressed that OPC will continue working closely with all sectors of the country to strengthen Puerto Cortés as one of the main links in the production chain of Honduras , as well as the main entrance and exit of goods . “Our commitment is to recover competitiveness as the main port of the entire Central American region and engine of the national economy for the benefit of all Hondurans .”
