International Container Services Inc. , a subsidiary of OPC , the company in charge of the operation and modernization of the container terminal at Puerto Cortes, announced today that through an international tender was awarded the contract to operate, develop and expand the port of Umm Qasr , Iraq ‘s most important and one of the most strategic in the Middle East.


The contract between ICTSI and the General Company for Ports of Iraq includes an investment of $ 130 million for the first phase of the project, the operation of the spring 20 for a period of 10 years and the construction and operation of a new general cargo terminal and container concession for 26 years.


With the expansion project is expected to triple port capacity rising from 300,000 TEUs a year now move to reach a capacity of 900,000 TEUs when the planned infrastructure is completed.


Juan Carlos Garrido , Director of Business Development for the Americas of ICTSI , ICTSI said it is a global company that is always looking for business opportunities to strategically expand into new markets and offer solid investment , best practices , thorough knowledge the port sector and technology.


The manager said that ICTSI has the ability to constantly improve operational and administrative efficiency of terminals operating , optimizing and modernizing every day both human resources and operations at each terminal , as well as information technology , support structures , equipment and infrastructure to ensure world class standards in all our operations.
